Come along for a chance to learn about the different types of telescopes available for taking part in the rewarding hobby of observing the heavens.
The evening will start with the simplest telescopes that would make a good present for a youngster. The talk will then move upwards to the two main telescopes types ‒ refractors and Newtonians ‒ describing their advantages, disadvantages and also giving recommendations of the best that are currently available.
Professor Ian Morison will also give demonstrations setting up the two common telescope mounts, ALT/AZ and Equatorial to overcome a common stumbling block for beginners.
Please note that this is a lecture with no practical observation session planned.
Pre-lecture dining is available in the Jodrell Bank Café.
