On 4th February 1966, Jodrell Bank intercepted signals from the Soviet Luna 9 spacecraft which had landed on the Moon the previous day. and printed them on a borrowed newspaper fax machine. These were the first ever pictures sent from the surface of the Moon.
On the fiftieth anniversary of this landmark event, Professor Tim O’Brien will talk about the role of Jodrell Bank in the space race from its detection of the Sputnik rocket in 1957 to the Moon Landings in 1969. He will also invite contributions from some of the people who worked at Jodrell Bank at this historic time.
Pre-lecture dining is available in the Jodrell Bank Café.
